Analysing the Content of Global Smart City Studies in Dealing with the Covid-19 Pandemic

Abstract

The COVID 19 Pandemic has posed wide-ranging challenges to cities. The smart city policy is one of the effective solutions in dealing with these challenges in the direction of sustainable urban development. Therefore, the current study analyzes the content of scientific research related to "Smart Cities and COVID 19". The current research is practical in terms of its purpose, in which the method of content analysis and scientometric techniques were used. The population of this research consists of 203 indexed scientific research related to "Smart Cities and COVID 19" in 2019 - 2021 on the Web of Science. Data analysis with Histcite, Excel,  & BibExcel software; and data mapping was done with VOSViewer and CiteSpace software. In terms of science production, although University College London ranked first, the United States was the top country and the engineering research field and the European Union were top research field and sponsor, respectively. Based on frequency "epidemics, information technology and urban sustainability" and based on the citations "urban planning, climate change and privacy" were the most important topics. A total of 8 thematic clusters (self-perceived digital competence; urban mobility; urban sustainability; emerging technologies; green reclamation; crisis management; post-corona perspective; new urban economies) identified from different countries in this field. Dealing with the far-reaching consequences of the COVID 19 epidemic requires the preparation of infrastructure and the development of research-oriented models in the field of urban policy-making. In this regard, it is necessary to pay attention to rich global research to identify top actors, important dimensions and issues, technologies and effective tools.
